Core Components is adding a LAN Game Center!

The new game center will be called The Game Core. It will consist of 12 gaming computers initially with the possibility of expansion to as many 21. All computers will be offering the lastest hardware from Intel, Nvidia, Corsair and more. Each system will be designed, assembled, and tested by our own in-house Gaming Computer brand - DarkWorx. Gaming keyboards, mice and headset from Razer. You can expect a game library over 200 titles strong including many popular titles such as Battlefield Bad Company 2, StarCraft 2, and World of Warcraft.

What is a LAN Game Center? For those that aren't gamers, or are just not familiar with the idea...

"LAN Game Center" - A LAN Gaming Center is a business where one can use a computer connected over a local area network (LAN) to other computers, primarily for the purpose of playing multiplayer video games. Use of these computers costs a fee, usually per hour or sometimes one can have unmetered access with a pass for a day or month, etc.

Gaming - The Stigma

Why is a gaming computer considered any differently than any other computer?

This is a common misconception. I recently had a customer that dropped of a 5 year old Dell Dimension desktop for optimization. She said that if there can't be anything done, that she would order a new one from Dell. I mentioned that I would be happy to build a new system for her. She responded "You can build me one? I thought you only built gaming computers."

Gaming computers are quite simply fast computers. The biggest difference between a home office computer and a "gaming capable" computer is the video card. Video games today are very demanding on the graphics processing unit (GPU). A computer without a powerful video card is just a computer.

However, there are benefits to selecting the components based on purpose. If you intend to perform a significant amount of multi-tasking a quad core processor is a must.

Next time you see a "gaming computer", just remember that it means it will do everything and just about anything well.

OCZ RevoDrive Combines SSDs in RAID via PCI-E

OCZ launched its RevoDrive that uses 4x PCI-E to achieve 80,000 IOPS.

OCZ Technology today revealed it's new RevoDrive PCI-Express SSD, which crams two SandForce-equipped MLC NAND SSDs--configured for a RAID 0 array--onto a single PCB. The company claims that it moves beyond the bottleneck of SATA II (3 Gbps) by incorporating a 4x PCI-E interface. The result is a solution that cranks out speeds over 500 MB/s reads and random small writes of up to 80,000 IOPS.
